Lumical is designed with privacy at its core. We believe your calendar and meeting data should stay private, and we've built the app to collect as little information as possible.
At a Glance
What We Collect:

Information We Collect and How We Use It
1. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
All your meeting data stays on your device. We use SwiftData to store:
- Meeting Details: Titles, dates, times, locations, attendees, and notes from scanned materials
- Calendar Preferences: Your default calendar and reminder list selections
- App Settings: Your preferences and onboarding completion status
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly sync meetings to your Apple Calendar.
2. Data Sent for Processing
When you scan a meeting invite or poster:
- Scanned Images: Photos you capture are sent to our OCR backend for AI-powered text extraction
- Context Information: Your timezone, locale, and current date (to accurately parse dates and times)
Important: Images are processed in real-time and deleted immediately after processing. We do not store your scanned images on our servers.
3. Anonymous Analytics Data
We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage analytics to understand how people use the app and identify areas for improvement.
What We Collect:
- Product interactions (which features you use)
- App performance data (crashes, errors)
- General usage patterns
Privacy Guarantees:
- This data is not tracked across other apps or websites
- This data is not linked to your identity
- No personal information is included
- All analytics are completely anonymous
4. Purchase History
We use RevenueCat to manage in-app purchases and subscriptions.
What We Collect:
- Purchase transactions and subscription status

- Only used for app functionality (managing your subscription)
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- 1. Extract meeting details from scanned images using AI/OCR
- 2. Store meetings locally on your device
- 3. Sync meetings to your Apple Calendar and Reminders (when you choose to)
- 4. Manage subscriptions and in-app purchases
- 5. Improve the app with anonymous analytics
- 6. Fix bugs and enhance performance
Data Storage and Security
Local Storage
- All meeting data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData
- Your preferences are stored in UserDefaults on your device
- You have complete control over your data
Apple Calendar Integration
- When you add a meeting to your calendar, it's stored in your Apple Calendar
- We only create new calendar events from your scanned materials
- We do not read your existing calendar events
- Calendar permissions are only used to create events you explicitly approve
Server Security
- All network communications use HTTPS/TLS encryption
- Scanned images are processed and immediately deleted

- Purpose: Extract meeting details from scanned images
- Data Shared: Scanned images and context (timezone, locale, date)
- Data Retention: Images are processed in real-time and not stored
- Security: All communications encrypted via HTTPS
Apple Services
- Apple Calendar: Used to store meetings you choose to sync (stored in your iCloud account)
- Apple Reminders: Used to create reminders for your meetings (stored in your iCloud account)
- We do not have access to data stored in your Apple account
Permissions We Request
Lumical requests the following iOS permissions to provide core functionality. You can grant or deny these permissions, and you can change them anytime in iOS Settings → Lumical.
Camera Access
- Why We Need It: To scan meeting invites, posters, and flyers
- When We Ask: The first time you tap the scan button
- What We Do: Capture photos of meeting materials for OCR processing
- What Happens If You Deny: You won't be able to use the scanning feature, which is the way the meetings is created.
Calendar Access
- Why We Need It: To add scanned meetings directly to your Apple Calendar
- When We Ask: The first time you try to save a meeting to your calendar
- What We Do: Create new calendar events from your scanned meetings
- What We Don't Do: We never read or access your existing calendar events
- What Happens If You Deny: Meetings will still be saved in Lumical, but won't sync to your Apple Calendar
Reminders Access
- Why We Need It: To create reminders for your upcoming meetings
- When We Ask: The first time you try to create a reminder for a meeting
- What We Do: Add reminders to your Apple Reminders app
- What Happens If You Deny: You won't be able to create reminders, but all other features work normally
Note: All permissions are optional. You can use Lumical without granting any of these permissions, though some features will be limited.
Your Rights and Choices
You have complete control over your data:
- Access: View all your meeting data in the app at any time
- Delete: Clear all meetings from Settings or delete individual meetings
- Update: Edit your preferences and meeting details anytime
- Revoke Permissions: Disable camera, calendar, or reminders access in iOS Settings → Lumical
- Opt-Out of Analytics: Contact us to request analytics opt-out
Children's Privacy
Lumical is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
Data Retention
- Meeting Data: Stored on your device until you delete it
- Server Logs: Kept for 30 days for debugging and security purposes only
- Anonymous Analytics: Aggregated data retained for 12 months
- Scanned Images: Deleted immediately after processing (not stored)
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal/regulatory reasons.
How we'll notify you:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top
- For significant changes, we'll show an in-app notification
Your continued use of Lumical after changes means you accept the updated policy.
California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have these rights:
- Right to Know: What personal information we collect (see above sections)
- Right to Delete: Request deletion of your data (contact us)
- Right to Opt-Out: We do not sell personal information

International Users
Lumical uses distributed cloud infrastructure to process data at locations closest to you for optimal performance. When you scan a meeting invite:
- Processing occurs at edge locations near your geographic region
- Images are processed in real-time and immediately deleted
- No data is permanently stored on servers
We take appropriate steps to ensure your data receives adequate protection regardless of where processing occurs.
